A nice collection of Hi-Railers, dual purpose vehicles from all over the world, that can take to the rails as well as the highways.

The collections range from the practical, to the bizarre. These vehicles could be used by a group of vacationers or a small family.

Heart-warming story of a puppy who was rescued after being frozen to the track. The puppy, now named Track had gotten wet in a nearby ditch and when he tried to go over the rail, his icy fur froze to the track. Track now has a home and is doing well.

Buildings and structures of American railroads is a reference book for railroad managers, superintendents, mechanics, engineer and architects. This book was digitized by Google and available for viewing online or downloading it as a PDF.

It is particularly useful for scratch builders as it contains plans and elevations of the various lineside railroad structures, from the humble shanties to the more complex depots and platforms. Each structure has a brief historical perspective, dimensions making it a valuable tool for creating models.

The Trainz 2010: Engineer’s Edition in game trailer was posted by n3vgames.

For modeler’s who never had the Trainz series, this 2010 version will let you build and operate your virtual railroad with ease and great level of detail. The ease of building layout in the Trainz series is a great plus over other simulators like Rail Simulator. If you are looking to geting one, please check the system requirements first:

Minimum
Windows XP (SP3)
1GB RAM
Pentium D 3.4GHz (or equivalent)
nVidia Geforce 7200/128MB (or equivalent)
15GB Free Hard Drive Space

Recommended

Windows Vista/Windows 7 (64bit)
2GB RAM
Core 2 Duo (or equivalent)
nVidia Geforce 8600 (or equivalent)
15GB Free Hard Drive Space

For owners of previous versions like myself, i prefer to wait this one out. There does not seem to be much in terms of enhancements over the 2009 version. Sure, it has the new-fangled SpeedTrees and the layer support but these features are not making me to run out and get a copy. Maybe later but not right now…

The TCS Power and Sound Unit is an over the top, full featured model train controller. Its pricey though at around $1400 but with the power control lever, brake handle, voltmeter (“speedometer”), ammeter, simulated air brake pressure meter and including the 29 different sound effects its seems to be an all immersive controller.
