Happy New Year and a BIG Thank You for visiting PassingLoop all through this year.
I had started this blog November 07 and did not know that i would keep going this long. I never intended to do this for ratings or read count. This was just my way of sharing information, tips and news from the world of real, model and virtual railways. I have enjoyed creating each post and thank you once again for reading and commenting on them.
As this year ends, i would like to share some of the Google Analytics and Feed statistics for this blog.

DP Review is having a Black and White Train Photography contest. The contest will try to capture the feel of the old steam era. Entries should be close-ups of train engines (steam or otherwise), cars, tracks, and other rail-related machinery, in B&W, monochrome, or duotone.
Contest is open until Thursday, 31st December, 2009.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! The best Christmas gift is a sense of belongingness, togetherness and strengthening family ties. Hold these dear to your heart this festive season. Have fun playing with trains with your family and friends.
I will resume regular posting in 2010. Until then, updates to the blog would be on the sparse side.
Once again, Have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year
Luke 2:15-20
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
The Norwegian broadcaster NRK recently made a 7 hour program showing every minute of the scenic train ride between Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, crossing the mountains to the capital of Oslo. The entire program is available under Creative Commons license and can be downloaded using Bittorrent.
The video is coded in a 720p, 1280×720 version and the 7 hours gives it a 22 GB file. That will be quite a download and hopefully there will be many seeders by now. I haven’t downloaded it yet though. If the size is prohibitive, you can check out the 10 minute preview clip at the bottom of the page.
A well made movie showing a highly detailed german layout of HeinzBesen. For more details/videos about this layout head over to Modellbahn Altburg. Though the site is in German, the photos and the track plans need no translation.
Lala which was recently in the news after being bought by Apple, has an album that contains 63 sounds effects of trains and boats. Though you can buy each sounds for $0.89 or the whole album for $4.49, you can preview the full clip. The train sounds range from steam, diesels, electrics and subways.
