Clever Models are giving out for FREE, a Railroad Crossing Tower in both HO and O scales. This free crossing tower also has some windows and doors that you could use for other projects.

Texture-wise, they have the best resolution when it comes to card/paper based modelers. Last year i had tried out their Mercantile building and was very impressed with the final outcome(JPEG). I have their disk-based products on my wishlist and will indulge myself soon.
I don’t know how long the railroad tower will remain free, so get your model now.

Three years ago, an innovative company called Railex joined forces with Union Pacific and CSX Railroads to come up with a cutting edge concept. They developed a faster, more efficient way to transport the nation’s food, connecting farmers from the West Coast to consumers on the East Coast.

The Fresh Express having 64-foot series cars with fresh air exchange, GPS tracking and temperature control makes the cross-country trip in just 5 days.

The program “The Fresh Express” was made by Market to Market and was showed on Iowa Public Television.

I had never heard of Bern Hill before but last week i saw an old episode on PBS’s Antique Roadshow and was blown away by his railroad posters. Each of them showed his great control of perspective and playfulness with light and shadows. The posters were appraised at $2000 a piece and that’s great considering that the collector bought most of them for $1.

You can view the Bern Hill episode below or check out other posters and transcripts of the show.

I don’t know how i missed this one. Ocemy has created some exceptional content for Trainz. The screenshots says it all. Even if you are not into a Chinese layout/content, give these a try. I loved the details of the ND5 and the DF11 diesel locos. The chef leaning out of the dining car adds a touch to a Trainz model not seen before. Even though the site is in Chinese, installing the content is very easy. At the end of each content page are listed all the files and dependencies for download.

These content work with Trainz version 2006 and above. I have Trainz 2009 and it worked well with it. So now i’m off to download more rolling stock, plop the Great Wall on an existing route and pretend i hauling goods and passengers through mainland China.

Note: Since the content is not hosted on Auran’s site, the downloads are fast but please if you like the content, do a backup of the files you download, as i have noticed that sometimes these external sites don’t stay up for long.

Auran have released another video showing a route, from their upcoming Trainz 2010 version, filled with Speedtrees. It does add a nice elemental touch but still no word of any other major technical enhancements. They have also released a few more screenshots which show some new locomotives and rolling stock.

I have still not pre-ordered and am waiting for more details. Speedtree is nice but i need more reasons to justify an upgrade. I really would be disappointed if the upcoming 2010 version is “2009 PLUS Speedtrees”
